At Putnam Bank we offer a service that helps you prevent panic when your debit card has gone missing: the ability to deactivate and reactivate your debit card.

Let’s say your debit card is stolen. Maybe it was in your purse or wallet that was taken, and now you are worried that someone is going to hit up the nearest store to use your money to buy whatever they want.

With our deactivation service, you can simply login to your Online Banking account to deactivate your debit card. When it is in a deactivated your state, any transactions that the card is used for will not be authorized, rendering it useless to whoever stole it.

In this situation, you would leave the card deactivated and contact Putnam Bank at 1-800-377-4244 to report your stolen card and order a new one.

Now, let’s say you deactivated your card because you thought you lost it. However, after backtracking and retracing your steps, you miraculously find your debit card. Simply log back into Online Banking and reactivate your card, and then rejoice that it was never lost in the first place.

You can also use this feature to manage your spending and protect yourself against fraud. Simply deactivate your card whenever it is not in use, and reactivate it for times when you need to make purchases.
